Residential New Build Project in Kingston Gorse

Project Overview
FRESH Architects was approached by a client to design their dream home in the luxury private estate of Kingston Gorse in East Preston. The project involved demolishing an existing dated property and replacing it with an ultra-contemporary high-end sustainable home.
Design Challenge
The primary challenge was creating a luxury family home that maximised the exceptional location whilst incorporating extensive accommodation across multiple levels. The design needed to take advantage of sea views to the south and South Downs views whilst integrating sustainable design principles throughout.
Architectural Solution
Our design strategy focused on a three-storey flat roof contemporary home with a large basement level, maximising the site's potential through vertical development.
The basement level accommodates extensive leisure facilities including a pool, jacuzzi, cinema room, car garage, games room, and wine cellar. This lower level provides comprehensive entertainment and storage facilities for the family.
The ground floor features a grand welcoming hall with a triple-height void that connects the entrance with the main living spaces. The ground floor includes a large open-plan kitchen, dining, and living area alongside a library and bedroom with ensuite and walk-in wardrobe. Practical spaces include utility, pantry, and boot room to serve daily family needs.
The first floor hosts a large living room positioned to enjoy 180-degree sea views towards the south of the property. Bedrooms are located either side of the property to take advantage of both sea views and South Downs views.
The second floor accommodates a large master bedroom with his and hers walk-in wardrobes and ensuites, creating a private retreat at the top of the house.
The external material palette was selected to be in keeping with the location and blend with the dominating stone found on East Preston beach, ensuring the contemporary design responds to its coastal setting.
Project Outcome
The proposal creates a luxury family home that maximises the exceptional Kingston Gorse location whilst providing extensive accommodation across four levels. The design takes full advantage of the site's sea and countryside views whilst incorporating sustainable design principles throughout.
The project demonstrates FRESH Architects' ability to create high-end contemporary homes that respond to their specific location whilst delivering comprehensive family accommodation and leisure facilities.
