Private House - Shoreham-by-Sea

We are excited to share the design for the transformation of a detached family home in one of Shoreham’s most sought after locations and a unique site that captures sweeping views in every direction. From the ever changing seascape to the rolling South Downs, and from the winding River Adur to the architectural presence of Lancing College and Shoreham Airport, this home sits at the meeting point of some of Sussex’s most inspiring natural and man-made landmarks.

These surroundings have guided every aspect of our design approach. Our goal has been to celebrate this extraordinary setting while reimagining the home for modern family life, introducing warmth, openness, functionality, and a seamless connection between indoor and outdoor spaces.

A Ground Floor Reimagined for Contemporary Living

Our proposal transforms the ground floor into a carefully considered series of flowing spaces, designed to support the rhythm of everyday life. A single-storey rear extension allows for an open-plan kitchen, dining, and living area space which is generous and sociable, with large glazed openings that bring the outdoors in and frame the views beyond.

Alongside this central hub, we’ve introduced a number of practical and lifestyle-focused additions: a cosy snug with a log burner for relaxed evenings, a new ground-floor bedroom, a utility room, WC, and a dedicated home office ideal for flexible or remote working. A new garage complements the design, balancing functionality with aesthetics.

A Home That Embraces Its Landscape

Outdoor living is a key part of the design vision. A new swimming pool and landscaped garden create a vibrant setting for leisure and family life, while strong visual and physical connections between interior and exterior spaces ensure the home feels rooted in its coastal environment.

First Floor: Designed Around the View

Upstairs, the redesign is centred on maximising the remarkable vistas from every angle. The main bedroom suite is reconfigured to include a striking glazed corner bringing in morning light and uninterrupted sea views. The ensuite bathroom is designed as a private sanctuary, featuring a picture window and freestanding bath positioned to make the most of the surrounding landscape.

This is a home that offers both retreat and connection designed to respond to its site, enrich daily living, and grow with the needs of its owners.
