Project Overview

FRESH Architects transformed a traditional home in Goring-by-Sea, that had remained untouched for over 30 years. Located within minutes of the Worthing seafront, the project involved comprehensive modernisation to convert the property from a traditional house to a contemporary refreshed home, both internally and externally.

Design Challenge

The primary challenge was modernising a property that had seen no updates for three decades whilst maximising natural light throughout the home. The design needed to incorporate additional living space through extensions and roof modifications whilst completely reconfiguring the internal layout to suit contemporary family living.

Architectural Solution

Our design strategy focused on a multi-faceted approach combining new extensions with internal reconfiguration. A new single-storey front extension provided additional ground floor space whilst maintaining the property's street presence.

The existing roof was removed to create a new room in the roof through a contemporary loft conversion, adding valuable accommodation to the upper level. This approach maximised the property's potential within the existing footprint. The ground floor and first floor layouts were completely reconfigured to create better flow and functionality. The ground floor now features a new open-plan kitchen, living, and dining area that forms the social heart of the home, complemented by a separate snug room for quieter family activities.

A full internal refurbishment was undertaken including new bathrooms and ensuites throughout the property. New flooring and decoration completed the transformation, creating a cohesive contemporary interior.
