Terraced House Loft Conversion in Worthing
The brief was to make the most of this modest terraced house in Worthing, optimising both space and light while creating a contemporary yet welcoming family home. To achieve this, we proposed a full loft conversion to accommodate a generous new master suite, complete with an ensuite bathroom and a walk-in wardrobe, providing a sense of retreat and privacy at the top of the house.
At ground floor level, a single-storey rear extension was designed to transform the heart of the home. Clad in vertical timber slats, the extension introduces warmth and texture while establishing a striking contrast against the traditional rendered façade. Large-format glazing and a set of slimline folding doors open up the living space to the garden, while a carefully detailed window seat provides a cosy nook that captures natural light and frames views outdoors.
To further enhance the connection between inside and out, a green wall has been integrated into the design, softening the hard landscaping and bringing greenery right up to the building line. This biophilic touch not only animates the extension but also promotes a sense of wellbeing for those inside.
The project balances practical considerations with bold design decisions. The reconfigured plan at ground level creates an open, flexible layout that encourages family living and entertaining, while the loft conversion maximises the property’s footprint without compromising the character of the terrace.
Perhaps most impressively, our client has taken on the ambitious task of building the extension himself. This self-build approach makes the project particularly rewarding, blending professional design expertise with personal craftsmanship and commitment.
